A theological discussion...

This is an argument that was presented in my Theology and Culture class last week:

1. God is all-powerful, so He has the power to stop evil.
2. God is all-good, so He has the wish to stop evil.
3. Yet, evil exists. So, either God has the power to stop evil and chooses not to (making Him not all-good), or He wants to stop evil, but doesn't possess the power to.

Discuss.

God is both all-good and all-powerful.

And in Jesus Christ, He has acted decisively to bring and end to evil, while at the same time acting decisively to rescue those who turn to Him.

In God's providence, the end result of these actions has not yet achieved full fruition.

So we wait, we watch, we pray -- and we minister in ways that bring foretastes of the Kingdom to come.

As the Apostle Paul said, in this life "we groan and are burdened...[yet w]e are always confident" (2 Cor. 5:4,6).

"God is all-good, so He has the wish to stop evil"

That all-good means that God has to "wish to stop evil" isn't supportable. Why is it good to "stop evil?" How could we go to heaven without death? Isn't God sovereign over our death? In other words, can't good come from evil? Can't God be all-good and allow evil and then turn it to good?

BTW, just passing through and noticed your question.
