A Very H Christmas...

* A Very H Christmas was this past weekend. The teachers and the RD's got together and swapped stories about working with the young'uns. It's amazing how similar college students and kindergarteners can be!

* On the way to Buford, Bird and I stopped in at the Bible Factory Outlet in Commerce to pick up some Christmas cards. At the register, we saw the newest addition to the Christian tchotchke department. You've probably seen the "Testamints" and the "CIA: Christian In Action" cards, but you may not have seen the Faith Chips. These are poker chips reminding you that Jesus went *ALL IN* for you, so *ANTE UP* your heart to Him.

Bird and I were at first just thinking these were funny and interesting and kind of laughing and pointing. But when the guys behind the counter (about our same age, lots of hair gel, a few hemp bracelets with crosses woven in) just stared at us and deadpanned, "It's supposed to be a witnessing tool," I just lost it. The whole situation was hilarious!

I am already a little uncomfortable at times in Christian bookstores because things like this seem to belittle what "witnessing" really means. I would love to hear the story of someone who was truly ministered to through a poker chip. I'm not saying God can't use whatever He wants to speak to a person, but this seems to me a stretch.

* Saturday night, the H Girls went out on the town to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. It was a little corny at times, but the Rockettes were truly amazing!! At the end of the show, there is an elaborate nativity scene (with real camels!!) and a reading from Luke 2. It was really awesome to see a non-religious show incorporating the real "reason for the Season" at the end. It was really beautiful, tasteful, and touching. Why can't all things "Christian" be the same?
